Let me begin with a sincere apology to our readers. I want to apologize for not announcing that I needed a break — I came down with a cold/flu which stuck around longer than expected and completely disrupted my ability to do just about anything when I was awake. In sharing that, I want to also personally apologize for the lack of sports columns by me — Davood Denavi — over the past month.
Secondly, when we launched Binary News in August 2024 and merged in Double Overtime — a side project which I originally started with my fellow writer Steve Leblang back in 2022 as our dedicated sports section — we set out with the goal of publishing at least two articles each day: one focused on sports and one covering a broader news topic. Unfortunately, we haven’t lived up to that commitment. We know that consistency matters, and falling short of that promise isn’t the kind of experience we want to deliver to you. You deserve better, and we truly appreciate your continued support.
Now for the good stuff: there are some exciting changes coming to Binary News.
In the next few weeks, every article will start include a donation button, giving readers a chance to support the site directly. Your contributions will help cover the ongoing costs of running the website and once operating expenses are fully paid compensate our writers for the time and energy they put into their work. This is in lieu of adding banner ads to the website ad we had planned to do when we first launched. We’re doing this independently, and your support goes a long way.
Also, I’m excited to announce a new recurring column: a column named “Binary Response”. This column will be a personal space where our writers will be weighing in on trending topics, relating to headlines and offering perspective based on an article they read which was written by someone else — most of these will likely be by me initially. The first installment of “Binary Response” will be published today over on our sports page, Double Overtime.
Looking a bit further ahead, we’re also gearing up for a full site redesign over the next few months. It’s going to be cleaner, faster, and easier to navigate. And as part of that redesign, we’re rolling out a comments feature! Within the next month or so, you’ll be able to join the conversation directly under each article, giving us the kind of two-way dialogue we’ve been wanting from the start without having to find our articles on social media.
Thanks again for sticking with us through the ups and downs. Your support means everything, and we’re committed to making Binary News and Double Overtime better every single day.
