Chicago Bears 2023 Draft Class

Here is my full recap for the 2023 Chicago Bears Draft Class where they had 10 picks

Darnell Wright Offensive Tackle Tennessee 1st round 10th pick overall: Bears without a doubt needed offensive line help to protect their franchise quarterback Justin Fields and Darnell Wright was the right choice for the Bears.  Yes I know a lot of people were saying taking Jalen Carter that very good defensive lineman from Georgia but he had too much baggage.  Wright has experience where he started 42 games at Tennessee, 27 of them as the right tackle.  Wright has played both left and right tackle along with right guard.  Wright is a very powerful offensive tackle who didn’t allow a sack in 19 connective games which included every game this past season.  Wright went up against both Will Anderson Jr. from Alabama who was drafted number 3 overall by the Houston Texans and Jalen Carter from Georgia who was drafted 9 overall by the Philadelphia Eagles and didn’t allow a sack to either one of these really good players.  Wright will likely be the Bears starting right tackle week 1, Wright was very good both in pass protection and in run blocking as well.  Love his length where Wright is listed at 6′ 6″ 335 pounds with 33 3/4″ arms.

Gervon Dexter Sr Defensive Tackle Florida 2nd Round pick 53rd overall: Dexter listed at 6’6’’ 310 pounds is known more as a run stopper but has shown some flashes as a pass rusher while at Florida.  Love his size, speed, strength and length as the Bears struggled big time against the run last season.  Dexter should make the Bears run defense somewhat improved.

Tyrique Stevenson CB from Miami Florida 2nd Round 56 pick overall: Tyrique listed at 6’0″ 198 pounds is a corner back who is very fast and along with being very physical against opposing wide receivers. Stevenson played both on the outside and in the nickel as well.  I also love about Stevenson is his toughness and how he recovers in time to make the play he needs to make.  Could be a possible nickel corner for the Bears who will provide huge depth in the secondary.

Zacch Pickens Defensive Tackle from South Carolina 3rd Round 64th pick overall: Zacch who is listed at 6’4″ 291 pounds can be both a run stopper and a pass rusher.  What I really like about Pickens is how as a defensive tackle that first quick step right when the ball is snapped either on a passing or running play.  Pickens will definitely improve the Bears run defense which was ranked near the bottom last season.

Roschon Johnson Running back from Texas in Austin 4th round 115th pick overall: If Roschon didn’t back up Bijan Robinson at Texas he would of been a starter somewhere else at a different school.  Roschon is a very powerful runner who only had 1 career fumble at Texas as a 4 year starter.  I love how he gains the tough yards and is able to break tackles to gain extra yards.  Roschon will probably be the Bears 3rd down back in passing situations where he was really good at picking up the blitz.  Roschon very well could be the backup to the Khalil Herbert in the Bears run heavy offense.  Love his size at 6’0″ 219 pounds for a running back.

Tyler Scott Wide Receiver from Cincinnati 4th round 133rd pick overall: Tyler Scott brings a lot of speed to the Bears receiving core.  I have heard some comparisons to current Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney.  Scott only has 2 years of experience at WR for the Bearcats and is only listed at at 5’10” 177 pounds.  He could be a kick off or punt returner for the Bears.

Noah Sewell Linebacker from Oregon 5th round 148th pick overall: Noah is the younger brother of Detroit Lions offensive tackle Penei  Sewell. Noah is known more as run defender while he has struggled in pass coverage.  I could see Noah as a 2 down linebacker.  I love how he is a hard hitter and was really good as a pass rusher at Oregon.  Love his size at 6’1″ 246 pounds.  We will see how the Bears defense will use him.

Terell Smith Cornerback from Minnesota 5th round 165th pick overall: Love the size for corner Terell Smith at 6′”0 204 pounds.  Love how he is very physical to opposing wide receivers along with playing both in man to man and zone defenses. Provides much needed depth in the Bears secondary.

Travis Bell Defensive Tackle from Kennesaw State 7th round 218th pick overall: Travis listed at 6’0″ 310 pounds, Bell provides much needed depth on the Bears defensive line.  More known as a run stopper but Travis did show some flashes as a pass rusher.  A bit undersized for a defensive tackle but maybe the Bears see something in this guy that we aren’t.

Kendall Williamson Safety from Stanford 7th round 258th pick overall: Kendall listed at 6’0″ 203 pounds, Kendall is known more as a run defender than in pass defense.  He did miss a lot of tackles and sometimes struggled in pass coverage.  Kendall will probably start out on special teams.
