Chicago Bears New GM and HC

The Chicago Bears recently hired 36 year old Ryan Poles as new GM and 51 year old Matt Eberflus as new head coach.  Yes we know we know the Bears have another Ryan GM and Matt HC but hopefully it works this time.  Matt Eberflus came from the Indianapolis Colts who spent the last 4 seasons as there defensive coordinator.  I really liked what he did in Indy where he emphasized in discipline, rallying to the football and getting the defense off the field on 3rd down.  Matt has never been a head coach before but I think he is ready for the challenge in Chicago.  I really liked who he brought in as offensive coordinator Luke Getsy who has worked with one of the games best quarterbacks in Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers along with stud wide receiver Davante Adams.  Luke has been with the Packers since 2014.  Both Rodgers and Adams spoke very highly of Getsy and hopefully that’s good news for Bears quarterback Justin Fields who will be entering his second season as a pro. Matt brought Alan Williams from Indianapolis as his new defensive coordinator.  Alan was the secondary coach for the Colts the last 4 seasons and he has plenty experience in the NFL where use to be a defensive coordinator under former Vikings HC Leslie Frazier who is now the defensive coordinator in Buffalo.  Matt Eberflus says the Bears will be a 4-3 defense where in years past they were a 3-4 defense.  Let’s see how Matt Eberflus does as Bears HC with plenty of coaching experience.

Bears new GM Ryan Poles use to be in Kansas City with the Chiefs since 2009 and he had all kinds of different positions in the organization. Ryan has worked under 3 different GM’s in KC from Scott Pioli to John Dorsey to Brett Veach.  Ryan Poles played a huge role during the 2017 NFL Draft when the Chiefs made a huge trade up for their star franchise quarterback in Patrick Mahomes.  Ryan Poles was part of the Chiefs when they won Super Bowl 54 against the SF 49ers during the 2019-20 season.  Poles did a lot of key things during his years in Kansas City to make the Chiefs a contender in the AFC.  I really liked what he said recently during the his introductory press conference that the Bears will take back the NFC North and won’t give it back.  Ryan Poles is the first Black GM in Chicago Bears history.  The Bears will have to make some tough decisions this off season with upcoming free agents with the likes of quarterback Andy Dalton, wide receiver Allen Robinson, both Akiem Hicks and Bilal Nichols and others.  Bears don’t have a first round pick at the moment because of the trade up last year for Justin Fields with the NY Giants but let’s see if Ryan Poles can maybe try to gain more draft picks.  Time for Ryan and Matt to get to work and get the Bears back to relevance where they not only contend in the NFC North but for Super Bowls.
