Chicago Bears Training Camp Preview

As the Chicago Bears report to training camp in the coming days, here is what I will keep my eye on very closely:

  • We all how good Justin Fields is as a running quarterback, but can he take the next step as a passer with an improved receiving core?  The Bears did get D. J. Moore in that trade with the Carolina Panthers which gives Fields a huge weapon at wide receiver.  I think a healthy Darnell Mooney, Chase Claypool and now D. J. Moore can be a solid trio at wide receiver.
  • I think Khalil Herbert is the Bears top running back going into training camp but I am really excited about rookie Roschon Johnson who could be the backup to Khalil Herbert.
  • If I had to guess the Bears starting offensive line right now I would say Braxton Jones at left tackle, Teven Jenkins at left guard, Cody Whitehair at center, Nate Davis at right guard and Bears first round draft pick Darnell Wright at right tackle.
  • What concerns me about the Bears defense is they really need a pass rusher, last season safety Jaquan Brisker was the team’s leading sacker with only 4 sacks.
  • I really love the additions of linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and T. J. Edwards who should make the Bears front 7 better.
  • I really liked what rookies Kyler Gordon and Jaquan Brisker did last season where hopefully they get better in year 2.
  • I really want to see the 2018 version of safety Eddie Jackson comeback where he 6 interceptions and scored 3 total touchdowns on defense where 2 of them were on a pick 6 and 1 via fumble.
  • Let’s see how the Bears look in training camp and in their 3 pre season games to get an idea of what they will look like for the 2023 season.
