The Chicago Cubs are heading to the World Series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is probably the best story I have ever heard in all of my years living in Chicago. The Cubs haven’t been to a World Series since 1945. The Cubs came oh so close in 1969, 1984, 1989, 2003 and last year in 2015, but this year I knew they were going to get their with this star studded team. A couple of years ago both Travis Wood and Anthony Rizzo in 2012 were part of a 101 loss team, this season they won 103 games. From the ownership of Tom Ricketts, to the outstanding front office duo of GM Jed Hoyer and President Theo Epstein and manger Joe Maddon, this team in 2016 was simply amazing. To Ron Santo, Ernie Banks and Harry Caray, this is for you, RIP.
Cubs dominated Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers 5-0 on Saturday night at Wrigley Field. Kyle Hendricks pitched as perfectly as you can pitching going 7.1 innings striking out 6 batters while giving up only 2 base hits. After the Cubs offense struggled against Clayton Kershaw in game 2, there offense exploded against one of the best pitchers in the game. Dexter Fowler started off with a bang hitting a double, then likely NL MVP Kris Bryant drove him home on single to make it 1-0 Cubs. After Anthony Rizzo hit a fly ball to Dodgers left fielder Andrew Toles where he dropped the ball with Kris Bryant going to 3rd base. Ben Zobrist hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Kris Bryant to make it 2-0 Cubs. After Addison Russell hit a double, Dexter Fowler drove in Russell to make it 3-0 Cubs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Then Wilson Contreras hit a home run in the bottom of the 4th while Anthony Rizzo who has been on a terror hit solo shot in the bottom of the 5th inning to make it 5-0 Cubs. And then the combination of Kyle Hendrick, and Aroldis Chapman pitched excellent. When Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig grounded out into a double play, the Cubs celebration all over had begun. Javy Baez and Jon Lester shared the NLCS MVP award. Baez hit .318 in this series where he drove in five runs and played excellent defense at 2nd base while Jon Lester pitched as perfectly as you can pitch going 1-0 with an era of 1.38 while striking out 9 batters. Cubs played as perfect of a game I have ever seen.
It was so amazing to watch. Both Joe Buck on Fox Sports and Cubs Radio Play by Play guy Pat Hughes called the last out perfectly. The Cubs will look to complete their World Series joruney against the Cleveland Indians who haven’t won a World Series since 1948, these two teams Cubs and Indians have the two longest droughts in all of baseball. I can’t wait and I hope the Cubs bring home a World Series Championship for the first time since 1908. Go Cubs Go!!!!!!!!!!!!
