The Chicago Sky are on a roll ever since the great Candace Parker returned to the lineup from an ankle injury. Remember when the Sky were 2-7 where they were on a 7 game losing streak and people like myself were hitting the panic button but now they are rolling as they are on a franchise best 7 game winning streak. The Sky were on that losing streak with not only Parker out of the lineup but other key players were out of the lineup with the likes of Allie Quigley and Stefanie Dolson but now the Sky are back at full strength and the Sky are firing on all cylinders. The Sky are 8-0 when Parker is in the lineup. Parker is doing it all for the Sky with her scoring, passing, rebounding and defense where she is making her teammates play much better. In all 8 games with Parker in the lineup the Sky have scored at least 80 points in every game she has played and there offensive rating of 110.6 is the best in all of the WNBA. The Sky during this stretch are averaging about 90.7 points per game where before they were averaging 76 points per game through the first nine games of the season. The Sky are shooting about 47.3 percent from the field along with 37.7 percent from the three point line during this recent stretch while before it was 38.3 from the field and 31.5 from beyond the arc. So glad the Sky are shooting the ball much better during this 7 game winning streak. Right now the Sky are at 9-7 where they are second place in the Eastern Conference and 4th place overall in the WNBA.
How about point guard Courtney Vandersloot who recently won Eastern Conference Player of the Week where in 3 games from last week where she averaged a double double in points and assists. She recently picked up her 2,000th career assists in her remarkable WNBA Career. She is two games away from tying former WNBA great point guard Ticha Penicheiro in games where she has at least 10 assists in a single game where the record is 64 games. Speaking of Courtney Vandersloot when both Allie Quigley and Candace Parker are both in the lineup the Sky are averaging about 23.7 assists per game and 13 turnovers a game during this winning streak. During that rough seven game losing streak the Sky were averaging around 17.3 turnovers a game. So glad the Sky are taking much better care of the ball during this 7 game winning streak.
Allie Quigley continues to be Allie Quigley where she does so well coming off the bench for the Sky. During this current 7 game winning streak she is leading the team in scoring averaging about 14.3 points per game shooting 49 percent from both the field and behind the three point line. The Sky really needed her veteran leadership and it was missing at the beginning of the season but now the Sky are on a roll with her back in the lineup. Allie Quigley and Courtney Vandersloot are a very underrated duo and plus with Diamond DeShields as well that’s a scary trio in the back court. What I really love about this Sky team is they are so balanced where they have so many different weapons who can score. James Wade the team’s head coach and general manager has done excellent job putting this roster together and hopefully this season ends in a WNBA Championship.
