Peyton Manning Super Bowl 50 Farewell

Defense wins championships as the Broncos defense dominated the Panthers high scoring offense winning Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara California at Levi’s stadium 24-10. Von Miller was the 2nd overall draft pick right behind MVP Cam Newton in the 2011 NFL Draft as Miller and the Broncos defense made a loud statement. Von Miller took home Super Bowl MVP after dominating the stat sheet with 6 tackles 2.5 sacks along with 2 forced fumbles which were both recovered by the Broncos including one for the game’s first touchdown. The Broncos sacked Newton six times and wide receiver Ginn Jr once on a trick play tying a Super Bowl record with the legendary 85 Bears defense for most sacks in a Super Bowl by a single defense. My real MVP of the game was Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Philips, after putting a lot of heat and roughing up Tom Brady in the AFC Championship game two weeks earlier, the Broncos defense picked up right where they left off holding the Panthers to 10 points while forcing 4 turnovers. Cam Newton completed only 18/41 passes with one interception and losing two fumbles. The Broncos limited the Panthers top target tight end Greg Olsen to 4 catches for 41 yards. Wade Philips and the defense deserve a lot of credit as the Broncos showed everyone in America that defense wins championships. The Broncos during these playoffs allowed only 4 touchdowns which was amazing.
The Broncos were all over Newton knocking him down time after time, blitzing him a lot and the Broncos didn’t allow Newton many times to scramble where he can be dangerous. Von Miller had plenty help from guys like Malik Jackson who scored the Broncos first touchdown after Von Miller sacked Cam Newton on strip sack fumble, DeMarcus Ware who had two sacks, Danny Trevathan who led the Broncos with 8 tackles and the Broncos secondary of Aquib Talib, Chris Harris Jr combined for 10 tackles and a sack while T.J. Ward who had an interception of Newton while also playing outstanding coverage. The Broncos defense dominated the Panthers offensive line. This Broncos defense is one of the best I have ever seen in all of my years watching football. Von Miller will get a big payday coming up for the Broncos and he is one of the premier pass rushers in the whole NFL. Got to also give a lot of credit to former Broncos superstar quarterback John Elway who is now in the front office.
I have a really strong feeling this is the last game of legendary quarterback Peyton Manning who played not well by completing only 13/23 passes for 141 yards with one interception and a lost fumble. The Broncos offense set a Super Bowl record by having a Super Bowl low of only 194 total yards of offense by a winning team in the Super Bowl. The Panthers defense did play really well in this game, Kony Ealy tied a Super Bowl record of 3 sacks. Panthers superstar linebacker Luke Kuechly had 10 tackles to go along with a sack. Both the Panthers and Broncos defenses combined for 12 sacks and both the quarterbacks didn’t put up eye popping numbers as this was a game dominated by the defense and special teams. C.J. Anderson led all rushers with 90 yards where also he also had the games clinching touchdown to give the Broncos a commanding lead. While Panthers shutdown corner Josh Norman limited Broncos top wideout Demaryius Thomas to one catch, Emmanuel Sanders led the way with six catches for 83 yards. Jordan Norwood set a Super Bowl record by having a punt return of 61 yards. Peyton Manning became the oldest quarterback at 39 years old to start and win a Super Bowl. Manning has the most wins among any NFL quarterback with 200 victories counting the postseason. I think Manning is a top 10 quarterback to ever play in the NFL. Manning and the Broncos offense did almost nothing in this game, but they can thank their defense for setting them up with the short field after the turnovers.
This game wasn’t as entertaining as the Super Bowl last year between the Seahawks and Patriots which came right down to the very end. Got to also give a lot of credit to former Broncos superstar quarterback John Elway who is now in the front office for the Broncos by building this championship team after they had that embarrassing loss in the Super Bowl to the Seattle Seahawks two seasons ago. After going one and done in the playoffs last season John Fox decided to part ways, they brought in former Broncos quarterback Gary Kubiak who use to be the Broncos backup quarterback and then was an assistant under Mike Shanahan when they won back to back Super Bowl’s to close out John Elway’s career as a quarterback.
